The Yorkshire County Girls Cricket Final
On the 9th of July 2019. The year 5 and 6 cricket team had already qualified for the county finals of the girl’s county final. This event was organised by the Yorkshire Diamonds coaches.
We headed to Hunslet Cricket Ground in Leeds. We left school at 8:00am on the mini bus. It took us about 1 hour 20 minutes (we had a bit of a ‘detour’).
There were sixteen teams. We were split into 4 groups of 4. We were in group A, with 3 different teams. First match was against Burchill and it was pouring down. It made the pitch very wet and very easy to slip.
Our team was batting first. Which was a bit unlucky as we hadn’t warmed up! We went on in our batting pairs. With decent batting we had scored many points. We fielded and bowled pretty well but made a few mistakes with the wickey, but in the end we drew!
That was an alright start. Next was against a school who seemed pretty sporty. We again was batting first and looked for spaces in the fielders. To score a few boundaries. They unfortunately, got a few wickets on us so we lost 5 points every time. They were strong batters and scored many 6 point boundaries. We again made several mistakes with our wickey and lost the game.
We had our lunch at 10am. We were very hungry!
Our last game was against a team with green uniform. To qualify for the quarter finals we had to win. Or we were totally out! Again, we were batting first and our batting was getting better. But they still got a few wickets because we weren’t covering them. Our fielding was better but we need to improve on our catches and reaction. They were a strong team on both fielding and batting! In the end they beat us!
We were out of the competition! We drew third in our group. Unfortunately, we were out but Mr Chappell treated us to Mr Freeze’s lollipops.
For participating we got a free quick cricket t-shirt and a certificate. We still have the guard of honour to look forward to! It was a fun day out at Hunslet Cricket Ground though and an experience we won’t forgot!
