Reception Planning

In Reception we follow a different curriculum to the rest of the school, we follow The Early Years Foundation Stage.

Our learning is made up of seven sections split into two main areas, Prime Area and Specific Areas.

Prime Areas

Communication and Language to develop Listening and Attention, Understanding and Speaking.

Physical Development to working on Moving and Handling skills and Health and Self-Care

Personal, Social and Emotional Development helps with Managing Feeling and Behaviour, their Self-Confidence and Self-Awareness and Making Relationships.

Specific Areas

Literacy teaches children to link letters to sounds and encourages a love of reading and writing.

Mathematics teaches children about number, shape, space and measure and embeds maths into all areas of learning.

Understanding the World develops a fascination in the worlds around them, teaches them to question, investigate, understand and make sense.

Expressive Art and Design allows children to share their ideas and thoughts through the wide range a media and materials available to them.

Planning and Leaning

In Reception we draw upon the children’s interests when planning work and activities. Adult initiated tasks are introduced where appropriate, but are adapted to suit the individual needs of the children. Their progress is rigorously tracked and monitored within their learning journeys, and next steps are carefully applied to their everyday learning and activities.

Reception is full of fun and learning across the full curriculum takes part in all areas of the classroom, inside and out. To see what we have be up to recently, check out our learning page.
