North Yorkshire Cricket Champions!
The year 5/6 girls’ cricket team traveled to Knaresborough Cricket Club on Tuesday to compete in the North Yorkshire round of the Yorkshire cricket championships, organised by YCCC.
They faced stiff competition from schools from as far afield as Stokesley, Harrogate, York and Bedale, but their brilliant batting, pacy bowling and organised fielding saw them winning all but one of their group games and advancing to the semi-final, in which they played Pannal, winning by a clear 38 runs and advancing to the final.
In the final they faced Clifton with Rawcliffe – the only team to beat them in the group stages! It promised to be a tough game, but the girls, who lost the toss and batted first, put on a fantastic batting performance that saw them taking 84 runs from 8 overs. A solid fielding performance meant that they eventually took the win by a good margin – 284 – 227.
It was a brilliant day out, and the girls showed fantastic sporting spirit and teamwork throughout the day, supporting and encouraging each other and being positive and friendly with their opponents – well done girls!
They now advance to the final round of the Yorkshire cup, held in Leeds on the 9th July, in which they will face teams from West, South and East Yorkshire.
