Cricket Success!
Here’s a brilliant write-up on the Year 5/6 Girls Cricket Team’s recent success at the York area tournament, written by Ella in Year 5:
On Tuesday the 21st of May 2019. The Alne Primary Girls’ Cricket Team went to go play cricket against different schools from all over North Yorkshire. This was made up of Year 5 and Year 6 girls. It was organised by the Yorkshire Diamonds which is a professional’s woman’s team and part of Yorkshire Cricket Club.
There were 13 schools competing, split into three groups. Each team in each group played each other and the winners from group one and two went through to the semi-final.
Alne School were in group 1 and played Esrick, Topcliffe and Badger Hill. These were all really competitive matches. But with great skill and determination, as well as excellent batting, bowling and fielding, we managed to win all of our group games.
Having reached the semi-final we were drawn to play Carton Miniott who were the runners up in group 3
In the semi-final, Isabelle batted very well and hit lots of boundaries, and Jess’s straight bowling got us lots of wickets. With these skills we won the semi-final and were going to the final.
The final was against Sowerby, who won group 2. They beat CWR (Clifton with Rawcliffe) in the semi-final. We played in Headingley (not the real one.) as Australia, and they were England. With great bowling from everyone and amazing batting from Sasha and Isabelle. We won the whole competition.
As winners, we have been given the chance to be the guards of honour for the Yorkshire Diamond Womens’ team at Headingly, and also get the chance to go to the next round in Leeds to play against teams from all over Yorkshire.
