Welcome to year 5.
In year 5 our children are encouraged to further develop their self-confidence through developing a growth mind set approach to learning, building on the resilience built through previous learning. In year 5 your children will be encouraged to participate in a whole host of activities that will nurture these aspects of themselves.
Our curriculum will cover all aspects as shown on our long term curriculum overview. Each term we take one of our scientific, historical or geographical areas in an umbrella topic and wherever possible our subject learning is linked to the topic. Our history topics include the Tudors and Ancient Eygpt. Our geography topics include mountains, South America and Sustainable development. Our science topics include living things in their habitat, earth and space, properties and changes of materials, animals including humans and forces.
Along with all of the curriculum that will be shared this year within the classroom setting, our children will also benefit from a dedicated PE lesson delivered by our sports coach Mr Montgomery along with an experience from a cricket coach during the autumn term. We will also be partaking in weekly visits to the Dawney Centre for outdoor learning in the forest setting.
Mrs Porter will be working with year 5 on the RE and PSHE topics this year too.
We always notice a huge change in growth in confidence throughout year 5 as your children mature into the upper years of school. We are looking forwards to experiencing all of this with your children this year too.
