Class 3

Welcome to Class 3

Mrs Hopper and Miss Dawson are Class 3’s teachers.

Welcome to year 3.

Class 3 is taught by Mrs Hopper and Miss Dawson.  Year 3 is the start of key stage 2 enabling us to access the enriching opportunities that come with the revised 2014 national curriculum programme of study.

In numeracy we have a focus on being able to recall mental maths facts in addition to developing our problem solving skills. This involves our much loved mental minutes and speed table weekly challenges! Our literacy is incorporated into termly topics creating a variety of opportunities to explore different text types such as instructions, reports, playscripts, adventure stories and poetry. Our history topics include the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age in addition to the Ancient Egyptians. In the past we have brought these times alive by exploring artefacts and visiting the Ryedale Museum to become Iron Age dwellers. In geography we compare UK and European cities in which we incorporate a sightseeing trip around York to help us appreciate the historic city that is on our doorstep. In PE we are taught by Mr Easton, Mrs Robson and Mr Chappell twice per week where we learn exciting team games such as dodgeball, bench ball and basketball as well as the more traditional netball, tag rugby and hockey. We also swim on a weekly basis at Thirsk from Feburary.

Further details of our topics can be found on the year 3 long term plan. We have also provided a copy of the year 3/4 spelling list.
